Terms & Conditions for interior design service in Malaysia

1. These terms and conditions apply to interior design services provided by Ikano Handel Sdn Bhd (“IKEA”) in-store and online.
2. The service is for private homes only, and not for commercial premises.
3. A service fee of RM 295 is required per room.
4. The service consists of:
   1. Measurement service: A professional will visit your home and measure the room for the interior design service. An additional charge for an outstation trip may apply.
   2. First Consultation: 1st appointment up to 60 minutes consultation to understand your requirements and preferences.
   3. Final Consultation: 2nd appointment up to 180 minutes presentation which includes a custom design solution, comprehensive documentation (mood boards, 3D Sketchup views, floor plans, lighting plans, and material proposals), a list of recommended products and services (hereinafter referred to as the “Service”)
5. The customer is required to complete and return a survey form (which is provided by an IKEA coworker) 72 hours prior to the First Consultation.
6. If the customer wishes to provide their own measurements, then the customer must provide the Designer with the measurements for the room(s) along with images of the room(s) 48 hours prior to the first appointment. IKEA shall not be responsible for any room dimension inaccuracies provided by the customer.
7. After the Final Consultation, the customer will receive one design option only. Any additional options or revisions are subject to the purchase of additional interior design services.
8. The service fee is refundable if no service is rendered. If any part of the Service has been provided, including the measurement service or consultations, the fee will not be refundable.
9. After the Service has been rendered either partially or in full, the service fee is reimbursable upon a minimum spend of RM 4,000 on home furnishing products within six (6) months from the date of the Final Consultation. The minimum spend does not include the purchase of gift cards, IKEA Food, and fees for delivery, assembly or installations.
10. Each purchase of the Service shall only be eligible for a single reimbursement.
11. Evidence of the minimum spend and purchase of the Service is required in the form of original receipts.
12. Once the minimum spend has been verified, the service fee will be reimbursed through an IKEA gift card. The gift card must be collected in-store from where the Service was purchased. The gift card can be used for in-store purchases only.
13. IKEA reserves the right to cancel the booking at any time before the appointment. IKEA shall use reasonable endeavours to provide the customer with advance notice of any cancellation. However, in any circumstances where an appointment is cancelled, the customer will be offered a new appointment.
14. IKEA shall not be responsible for product unavailability. In the event the customer requires any amendments to the design due to product unavailability or suitability, the Customer is required to purchase an additional Service package.
15. The customer should review the product specifications and instructions on IKEA’s website to decide on the suitability of the products for the customer’s intended use. The customer accepts that no additional warranties or consumer rights relating to the product, beyond those given in the IKEA terms and conditions of sale, shall apply. Any such warranties, express or implied, are hereby fully excluded.
16. Any products or services from third parties, external suppliers or sole traders suggested by IKEA are used at the customer's own risk and are not covered by these Terms and Conditions. IKEA is not responsible for their products and services. The customer's use of these products and services are governed by the suppliers' terms and conditions.
17. Designers cannot create custom or modified solutions for Customers and are limited to suggesting IKEA furniture and products designed for their intended use only.
18. Designers creating children’s rooms are required to use only recommended furniture approved for children, and suitable for the age of the child.
19. All intellectual property rights in the Service provided, including but not limited to designs, drawings, plans, and any other materials, are and shall remain the exclusive property of IKEA Malaysia. Upon request, we may provide a soft copy of the Sketchup file; however, this file is intended for personal use only. The customer agrees not to remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary rights notices included in the materials. Any unauthorised use, reproduction, or distribution of these materials is strictly prohibited.
20. IKEA reserves the right to withdraw the Service or amend these conditions at any time without notice.

Your design may take up to 4 weeks or more, depending on the size of the project to complete. After your first consultation, your designer will provide an estimated completion date. If you have a preferred timeline, let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.

Yes! Our interior designers can work with your existing furniture and suggest new items or accessories to complement your space.  

IKEA focuses on home furnishing and does not provide flooring or painting services. However, our designers can recommend colour schemes or flooring options that match your design. 

IKEA provides coloured 3D sketches. You’ll have one opportunity to review and request minor changes together with our designer, such as adjustments to colours, materials, or furniture placement. 

Yes! While we recommend the first meeting to be in person, follow-ups, reviews, and quotations can be done via email. You can complete your purchase in-store or through an online payment link. 

6. Do you offer home or site visits? 
Currently, we do not offer home or site visits.  

7. What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment? 
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let us know as soon as possible. To cancel, click the cancellation link in your confirmation email.

8. Can you design my entire home or multiple rooms?
Yes! We can design multiple rooms or your entire home.

9. Can I make changes to my design after the final consultation? 
Yes, you can request revisions or alternative options after your final consultation. However, these will be charged separately based on the service package. Please arrange any additional revisions directly with your designer. 

10. Do you offer a measuring service?
Yes, our interior design service includes a measuring service. Our team will visit your space at a time that suits you. If your location is outside our service area, additional costs may apply.

11. Is this service available in East Malaysia?
At the moment, our interior design service is only available in West Malaysia.
